New Challenges

As some of you may be aware, I struggle with depression. Not clinical mind you, but bad enough. Its something I will likely have for the rest of my life.

But I’m not writing about that. I have to up the ante to try and overcome it on a daily basis. My obsession with tea isn’t quite working (then again i haven’t drinking as much of it lately), as a result I have to change tactics.

As a result, I have set myself 3 new challenges starting Monday:

1. Picture a day (The Kilted Artist)
2. Video clip a day (The Kilted Artist)
3. 5-12 lines of code a day (stephanhughes.tech)

These are not meant to be easy. They are meant to challenge me. I wrote recently on The Kilted Artist about how I feel out of practice with photo and video. This is the only way to work on that. Meanwhile, I am trying to become a software developer. I’m still learning how to code and I must motivate myself to do so every day. Having to post code is a motivation.

My other 2 goals are to learn French and learn to play the bass. I can’t really post the results of those activities, as they will take a bit more time. I will hopefully find the motivation to continue my work on a writing and illustration project. But these various activities will hopefully get me blogging more. I want to write more compelling content. As much as I enjoy writing, it would be nice to get more people to read. I am hoping to post two StephanHughes.com exclusive posts a week.

Check back here sometime Monday evening or on the respective websites. Help motivate me to achieve my goals. It is support and encouragement that I need the most right now. Depression is a hard thing to live with. The most important thing people can do is show they care.

  1. Really good on you for bringing up the discussion of depression. I think a lot of us deal with that and the more it is talked about the more ways we will discover to invigorate and be happy 🙂

    great post!
